Sporadic shootings by a yet-to-be-identified hoodlum caused panic and apprehension at the venue of the Edo State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal, in Benin, on Wednesday.
The incident occurred along Ezoti Street, adjacent to the High Court complex, venue of the Tribunal.
The hoodlum was captured in a video footage, as he emerged from an unregistered white Toyota Hilux van, loaded bullets into a pump-action rifle and began firing into the air, causing panic among onlookers.
Sounds of gunfire echoed into the Tribunal premises, creating a tensed atmosphere.
Also, onfused passersby who observed the incident scampared for safety, while the few armed policemen nearby watched helplessly as they fail to intervene.
The incident has raised concerns about the increasing tension surrounding proceedings at the Tribunal.
