No fewer than 12 people have been reportedly killed and several others injured when a petrol-laden tanker exploded in Niger State.
The incident occurred at about 10 am on Saturday, at Dikko Junction, Abuja-Kaduna Expressway, Gurara Local Government Area of the State.
The high fatality rate was said to be because people gathered to scoop petroleum product that spilled from the tanker before the explosion occurred.
The Niger State Sector Commander, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Kumar Tsukwam, who confirmed the incident, however said the number of fatalities was yet to be ascertained.
The Niger State Governor, Mohammed Umar Bago, who spoke through his Chief Press Secretary, Bologi Ibrahim, expressed worry over the recurring incident of tank explosion in the State.
