Anambra Police Command Cracks Down on Criminal Hideouts, Arrests Suspects

Operatives of the Anambra State Police Command have recorded series of successes in crime-busting last weekend.

On Saturday, January 25, operatives of the Command’s Special Anti-Cult Squad, Enugwu Ukwu, arrested two suspects at a security checkpoint on Umudioka-Awkuzu Road, by Igbariam.

The two suspects, Raphael Peverga and Saakura Teryima, both aged 22, and from Benue State, were among four occupants of a white Toyota Corolla vehicle with registration number YAB 26 CB. The other two occupants reportedly alighted from the vehicle while still in motion, and escaped.

Item recovered from them include one Barreta pistol, two live ammunition and the Toyota Corolla vehicle.

A statement by the Command’s spokesman, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, said “efforts are ongoing to arrest the other two suspects that are currently on the run.”

In a related development, the Command’s Joint Security Team, comprising of Police Operatives from Oko Divisional Headquarters and AVG Operatives, Amaokpala, on January 25, 2025, at about 10.30 pm, raided an identified criminal hideout at Umudike, Amaokpala, Orumba North Local Government Area of the State.

It was gathered that the fierce-looking criminals took to their heels on sighting the Joint Security Team and ran into the nearby bushes.

Items recovered at the hideout include large quantity of substance suspected to be hard drugs, two mobile phones and a cash sum of ₦73,150 suspected to be proceeds from the sales of the substance.

The Operatives have taken over the scene, destroyed the camp and are on the offensive against the criminals for possible arrest and to make sure they don’t regroup anywhere in the State.

It will also be recalled that operatives of the Command had foiled a planned cult clash and arrested one suspect in the process.

It was gathered that the Anti Cult unit of the Command stationed at Enugwu Ukwu, acting on credible information, arrested one Maduka Okoye (25).

The suspect confessed to being a member of Baggars Confraternity and said that he was in a beer parlour drinking with his friend in the area when they came under attack by members of the rival cult group identified as Axe Men Confraternity.

The team recovered three expended cartridges of a pump action gun at a shooting scene in Ezichike Community of Abagana.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, Nnaghe Obono Itam, has assures that the Command shall continue to evolve strategy and improve operational positioning in the State to nip to the bud such criminal elements.
