HORROR! Suspected Herdsmen Kill 5 in Akure Community

There was pandemonium in Daadaa Community, in Akure North Local Government Area of Ondo State on Wednesday, following the discovery of the five lifeless bodies inside their houses.

The victims were suspected to have been killed inside their homes on Tuesday afternoon by herdsmen who infest the forests in the area.

According to the head of the traditional hunters in Ondo State, Mr Benjamin Onagadia, the victims had returned from their respective farms to rest for the afternoon before returning to the farms when their assailants attacked them.

He said he received a call around 7 pm that the victims have been killed.

Onagadia who described the incidence as recurring in the community, pleaded with the government to come to their rescue.

He, however, urged the government to equip the local hunters so that they can combat the challenge of insecurity in the area.

Angry residents who discovered the bodies of the victims, reportedly took them in a bus and announced the discovery at nearby Fresh FM Radio Station.

It was gathered that operatives of the State Security Network (Amotekun Corps), later recovered the corpses and took them to their office.

The administrative head of Amotekun Corps, Commandant Dele Adetarami, who confirmed the incident, described it as unfortunate.

“We got a report and immediately we took action, our men are already combing the forest. We are yet to arrest anybody with respect to that case, the hunters from the village called and we took action,” he said.

Adetarami, however, assured the public that his men have been deployed to comb the entire area to ensure that the perpetrators are fished out.

As at the time of filing this report, effort to get Police reaction failed as calls made to the State Command Spokesperson, CSP Odunlami Funmilayo’s mobile phone failed to connect.
