A 54-year-old Prophet of Celestial Church of Christ (CCC), Eagle Parish, Yomi Adetula, was on Sunday shot death during the church service.
The church is located in Idiroko, Ipokia Local Government Area of Ogun State, on killing the Prophet in Charge in the process.
It was gathered that the hoodlums numbering three, stormed the church at about 10:30 am, disrupted the ongoing service and opened fire on the Prophet.
Eyewitness reported that the congregants scampered for safety at different directions.
The State Police Command spokesperson, CSP Omolola Odutola, who confirmed the incident, disclosed that police operatives who visited the scene of the crime, met the lifeless body of the victim in a pool of blood, lying face up.
“On careful observation, his body was riddled with bullets and his head was not speared. To ensure the victim was really dead, it was mangled with Axe.
“On police inquiry, information further gathered that three men came into the church, brought out long double barrel gun aimed at their target and fired a shot that brought the deceased down,” she said.
Odutola who disclosed that the remains of the victim has been deposited at the morgue of the General Hospital, Ilaro, added that normalcy has been restored to the area while efforts are on to arrest the gunmen.
